Guarantor of fresh products celebrates anniversary

For two decades it has been No. 1 in Europe – over 9,000 square metres of temperature-controlled storage space located directly at Frankfurt Airport – over 120,000 tons of “Perishables” per year and up to 700 tons daily.

The Air Cargo Community Frankfurt, the group of companies, institutions and associations which aims to promote the air cargo location Frankfurt, congratulates its member, the Perishable Center Frankfurt (PCF), on its 20th anniversary. The PCF is the centre for temperature-controlled logistics located directly at Frankfurt Airport, Europe’s largest institution of its kind at an airport with direct access to the apron access.

"For airfreight at Frankfurt Airport, the Perishable Center Frankfurt is a very important factor, from which the hypermarkets and supermarkets and in particular, of course, the consumers in the Rhine-Main region and far beyond enjoy the benefits. It is an enormously reliable guarantor of easily perishable goods, whose wide range of services are open to all companies at the location”, says Joachim von Winning, Managing Director of Air Cargo Community Frankfurt. “On behalf of the Community, I would like to congratulate the Perishable Center Frankfurt, with its total of around 120 employees on its 20th anniversary and wish the leading air cargo warehouse for temperature-controlled logistics in Europe a successful future in a growing air cargo market”.

Every day up to 700 tons of perishable goods, so-called “Perishables”, from distant and exotic countries are taken from the aircraft directly into the PCF, where they are temporarily stored, cleared through customs, checked and, after only a short stay, loaded for further transport. As a result, every year shipments with meat, fish, shellfish, pharmaceuticals, fruits, vegetables, flowers and plants with a total volume of more than 120,000 tons pass through the PCF. All of this is handled in 20 strictly-controlled temperature ranges between -24°C and + 24°C. Fast Cooling, Vacuum Cooling, Re-freezing, Quality Control and much more round off the wide ranging service portfolio of the PCF.

Air Cargo Community Frankfurt e.V.

The Air Cargo Community Frankfurt e.V. is an association of companies, institutions and organizations with the clear objective of promoting the airfreight location of Frankfurt. Its total of 27 members includes representatives of all areas of the air cargo supply chain. The association has three working groups “Temperature-controlled Transport”, “Processes & Infrastructure" and "Location Marketing & Community Building", as well as various specialist groups which represent the entire range of services offered at the airfreight location of Frankfurt. The prime objective is that the Frankfurt Airport will, also in future, continue to clearly be Europe’s No. 1 in the air freight business and, as the leading cargo hub, significantly enhance its competitiveness compared with other airports in neighboring countries. The location of Frankfurt, today with more than 2.2 million tons of air freight (2014) and 11,600 employees in the cargo area, should also continue to grow significantly in the coming years and, in doing so, capture an even larger share of global freight volumes for itself.
