Cargo Forwarder Global: Glyn Hughes on freight, feelings, and future generations

The air cargo industry has seldom been as well off as it is at the moment, which pleases not only the players directly involved, but also their organizations and professional associations, such as The International Air Cargo Association and its Director General, Glyn Hughes. All in all, the industry is thriving, apart from some regional differences and ongoing challenges. Yet, urgent tasks remain that need attending to, and in his speech at the recent Frankfurt Air Cargo Community meeting, Glyn warned against complacency. Moreover, he said, a generation is pushing forward that embodies different values than those of most of today's industrial decision-makers.

Cargo Forwarder Global: At last, a face-to-face event again

Was that a step towards the "old normal"? In any case, the live event held by the Frankfurt Air Cargo Community on Wednesday and Thursday last week (25/26AUG21), was a successful one attended by more than 200 participants. Bringing people together at one venue was courageous because the pandemic is far from over, but worth the effort for two reasons: it was an in-person event and provided important takeaways for those who attended.

This is something rarely heard from a leading manager of the logistics industry: the demand for higher salaries for the lower wage groups. Yet, it was a claim voiced by Thomas Mack, Executive VP Global Airfreight at DHL Global Forwarding, during a panel discussion orchestrated by the Frankfurt Air Cargo Community last Wednesday and Thursday at Rhein-Main Airport. His unexpected plea baffled most of the attendees along with online participants who had registered for the live event.
